The first of the 2024-2025 Fall Semester Sociology Seminars of the Muş Alparslan University Sociology Department was held with the presentation titled "Emotions and Images: A Spinozist Understanding of Society" by the Department Head Dr. Lecturer Engin ABAT.
In the first of the seminar series, which will continue with the participation of both our department faculty members and guest speakers in the coming weeks, Abat explained Spinoza's theories of Mind, Body, Emotion and Imagination and how they relate to our understanding of society, and then tried to show in what ways these Spinozist themes can be valuable in Sociology in particular and Social Theory/Sciences in general.
Engin ABAT concluded his presentation by emphasizing the development of Body and Emotion Sociologies in particular, and by drawing attention to the fact that Spinoza's positioning in the fields of ontology and epistemology can create a useful context for the discipline of sociology.
After the presentation, the participants' questions were answered and thus the 2024-2025 Fall Semester Sociology Seminar series was started.
The next meeting of the seminar series will be held on November 27, 2024 at 12:00 in classroom AH208.
