A Double Major Cooperation Protocol Signed Between the Departments of History and Philosophy at Our Faculty

22.04.2026 05:57

A significant cooperation protocol has been signed between the Departments of History and Philosophy within our Faculty, aiming to expand students’ academic opportunities. This agreement, designed to strengthen interdisciplinary interaction, paves the way for the implementation of double major (DMP) programs between the two departments.

The protocol was mutually signed by Prof. Dr. Kasım Müminoğlu, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Celal Öney, Head of the Department of History. The meeting was also attended by Vice Deans Prof. Dr. Abdullah Aydın and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Alanoğlu, as well as Vice Head of the Department of History Dr. Kenan Demirel.

Through this protocol, students of the Department of History will have the opportunity to pursue a double major by taking courses offered by the Department of Philosophy. In this way, students are expected not only to deepen their knowledge in their primary field but also to develop critical thinking and analytical skills through a philosophical perspective. This approach aims to enable students to evaluate historical events within a broader conceptual framework and to support their academic and intellectual development in a multidimensional manner.

This collaboration is also considered a concrete step toward addressing certain areas for improvement identified during the accreditation process of the Department of History. It is expected that this initiative, which enhances program diversity and strengthens an interdisciplinary approach, will directly contribute to the overall quality of education within the department.

The faculty administration emphasized that this cooperation will provide students with new academic opportunities, positively contribute to their career planning, and further advance the educational vision of our university. It was also highlighted that such initiatives will continue to reinforce a comprehensive and holistic approach to education, which is a fundamental component of contemporary higher education.
