Research Assistant Özcan Evrensel from the Department of History at our Faculty participated in the youth exchange project “Village of Diversity,” carried out within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme and supported by the European Union.
Implemented under the KA152 – Youth Exchange action of the Erasmus+ Programme, the project aims to bring together young people from different European countries and promote intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, inclusion, and respect for diversity.
Held from 18 to 25 September, the programme was hosted by Mladinska Zadruga Panotrip (PANOTRIP), while the sending organisation from Türkiye was the Cosmos (Kozmos) Youth Association.
A total of five countries—Türkiye, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Romania, and Lithuania—participated in the project, with seven participants representing each country. The project provided young people from diverse cultural backgrounds with opportunities to come together, share their experiences, and engage in intercultural interaction.
Within the scope of the “Village of Diversity” project, participants had the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the cultures, traditions, and ways of life of different countries. Through non-formal education activities, workshops, group work, intercultural evenings, and visits to local communities, participants introduced their own cultures while learning about the cultural values and practices of other participating countries.
The intercultural activities carried out throughout the project contributed to strengthening mutual understanding and communication among participants, while also fostering a greater appreciation of the importance of diversity and coexistence.
The programme also contributed to the development of participants’ communication, teamwork, collaboration, active participation, and intercultural communication skills. Working collaboratively with young people from different countries provided participants with valuable experience in an international environment and opportunities to gain new perspectives.
Youth exchange projects carried out under the Erasmus+ Programme provide young people, particularly university students, with opportunities to meet peers from different countries, discover new cultures, practise foreign languages, and gain international experience.
Such projects make valuable contributions to students’ personal development, social and communication skills, intercultural awareness, and international experience. Following Erasmus+ and similar international youth projects and taking advantage of the opportunities they offer are important for students seeking to explore different cultures, gain new experiences, and develop international connections.
Özcan Evrensel’s participation in the “Village of Diversity” project provided a valuable experience in terms of international mobility and intercultural learning. The knowledge and experience gained through the project are expected to contribute not only to academic and social activities but also to raising students’ awareness of international opportunities.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Faculty Administration for its support in making this meaningful international experience possible. We hope that such initiatives, which contribute to the internationalisation of our Faculty and strengthen intercultural interaction, will continue to grow in the future.
